The Gambia College has two campuses, located in Brikama
and Banjul.
Banjul Campus:
It lies in the heart of the capital city Banjul. Situated
at Marina Parade, the School of Nursing and Midwifery
is close to he largest hospital in the country (the
Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital). Its proximity to
the hospital allows the trainee nurses easy access
to the facility where most of their clinical experiences
are acquired.
The Campus has on site:
Dormitories to accommodate both male and female
students nurses
Laboratories and lecture rooms
Offices for tutors
An auditorium
Catering and dining facilities
The School of Medicine and Allied Sciences of the
University of the Gambia share the campus.
Brikama campus:
The headquarters of the Gambia College is located
in Brikama, Western Division, 22 miles from the capital
city of Banjul. This property is about 600 acres in
size. The vast expanse of land provides room for expansion
and for the agricultural activities of the School
of Agriculture.
The Brikama campus was built in 1981 and consists
of the following:
Dormitory blocks for both male and female students
An academic block shared by the Schools of Agriculture
and Education
An administrative block
A utility wing with modern kitchen and dining facilities
An assembly hall
A resource centre and a library
Today, these facilities have increased with the addition
of the ultra modern School of Public Health building
consisting of:
A modern auditorium
A second library
Science laboratories and classrooms
Catering and dining facilities

The School of Nursing and Midwifery started training
State Registered Nurses (SRN) in 1965 and State Certified
Midwives (SCM) in 1968. In 1980, together with the schools
of Agriculture, Education and Public Health, the school was
formed by the Gambia College passed in 1978.
Since its inception, it has been training State Registered
Nurses and Midwives in the Gambia. It started to train Male
midwives in 1984 to meet the demanding needs for midwives.
It also trains public health inspectors, agriculture and livestock
assistants.
Graduates of this school are currently occupying senior positions
in the delivery of health services in the country. They are
also making valuable contributions in nursing abroad especially
in The United Kingdom and The United States of America.
It is a co-educational school with recreational and kitchen
facilities thus making it easy for students to board and lodge.
Entry requirements
Registered Nurse Programme
General certificate of Education
Ordinary Level (GCE OLevels)
5 credits which must include English, Science and (3) three
other academic subjects.
Or
West African Senior Secondary School Certificate of Education
(WASSSCE)
4 credits which must include English, Science and (2) two
other academic subjects.
Or
A State Enrolled Nurse/Midwife or Enrolled Community Health
Nurse/Midwife
Certificate holder with at least two years working experience
Age: 18 years and above
Duration of training: three (3) years
Registrar:
The College Registry is headed by the Registrar who is assisted
by the Deputy Registrar. Among other things, this office is
responsible for development and dissemination of information
related to student and staff recruitment, student qualification,
staff performance appraisal and management of personnel data.
The Registry is also responsible of co-ordination and management
of examinations in collaboration with the Heads of four constituent
schools of the college.
