Information:
The
Ministry of Works, Construction and Infrastructure are primarily
involved in public building works as well as all forms of
transport such as road,
maritime and air transport
infrastructural development in The Gambia.
Mission Statement:
"To ensure the maintenance of the highest standards of
architectural designs and construction of public buildings
and to provide an effective and efficient transportation system
to facilitate the movements of goods and persons by air, water
and land, as well as provide quality advisory and support
services to other Government Ministries
and Agencies."
Policies:
• National Transport Policy
– objective is to support, in the long term, the productive
capacity of the economy
and will assist in the improvement of the living standards
of the Gambian citizens.
• Air Transport Policy
– aims to develop Banjul
International Airport as the principal access point to
the sub region. Also to develop Civil
Aviation in support of tourism and trade and to ensure
cost effectiveness of the industry and encourage private sector
participation.
• Road Transport Policy - encompasses private and public passengers,
and products transported by road. The main objective is to improve the quality
of passenger and freight transport by creating a conducive environment
to stimulate private sector initiatives in the industry.
• Road Infrastructure Policy – goal is to develop and maintain the road
infrastructure in The Gambia so as to enhance economic and social
development.
• Maritime Transport Policy – the development of Banjul port is in
line with port Master plan and the trade gateway project and promotion
of river transport to address the current under utilization of the
river. This focuses on strengthening the position of the port of
Banjul as a gateway to the region. Hence, services are improved to
ensure transport chain to keep it competitive.
