Review: Leo's is an avant-garde, beautifully simplistic structure within The Gambia's coastal hospitality sector - you could be forgiven for thinking you were in Miami! It's a well thought out accommodation block of 5 double bedrooms & 1 suite with 2 guest bedrooms & all with ocean facing sea views from private verandas. All have air-conditioning, wireless broadband internet connection, a private shower, flush toilet, sink, satellite TV, ceiling fan, veranda, sea views, minibar & security safe. There is an elegant, stylish drinks bar where you can mingle with other guests & entertain friends. In case of power failure the building has a back-up generator & it utilizes solar panels to produce the running hot water for the bathrooms & the diner's kitchen. Water is not a problem either as Leo's has its own borehole & is connected to the mains supply. *Airport transfers.

Mandina Lodges

Review: Mandina is a wilderness based 5 star eco-lodge with lodges sleeping either 2 or 3 guests. Each suite (Stilted, Jungle or 'Floating') has an open-air shower (with solar heated hot water), hand-bowl & toilet, ceiling fan, sunbathing terrace & a four-poster bed with mosquito net draping. Built in amongst the mangroves & tropical forest it literally does give you a feeling of being close to nature. So close in fact that you may occasionally spot the odd Colobus or Vervet monkey nearby. The whole of this luxury accommodation is set within its own private land of riverine, mangrove creek, savanna, palm & hardwood-forest, & salt-flat eco-systems covering 1,000 acres.

Review: Ngala Lodge, formerly a converted colonial mansion, is a sumptuous 5 star boutique hotel on the beach. The cliff-top location gives it's visitors an almost unmatched swathe of oceanic scenery such as the precariously hanging coastal rhun palms, the Atlantic Ocean's horizon and Kotu's sweeping sandy bay to your left. The lodge has stairs leading down to the often narrow shore. Ngala has 17 air-conditioned bedrooms of varying sizes, sleeping 2 people each. Suites come in groups of varying sizes & levels of homely comforts, & each has a private bathroom with hot tap water, & WC, plus a private terrace, balcony or garden, while some with ocean views.

Review: As you enter the sea facing holiday villa you are welcomed by a two storey high ceiling and gleaming marble tiled lobby with two marble clad sweeping flights of stairs that meet on the second floor. Of its 7 air-conditioned bedrooms, 6 have sea views, 6 have a double bed & en-suite shower. One room has air-conditioning, 2 double beds & large en-suite bathroom (suitable for some families). All the suites enjoy the convenience of an electronic safe, a satellite TV, ceiling fans, mini-fridge, tea/coffee making facilities, a hair dryer & daily maid cleaning. The shared general facilities are a 60 x 30 metre seaward facing garden, a shower by the pool, sun loungers, massage service, 24 hour back-up generator, solar powered hot water, disabled access & more. *Airport transfers.

Review: This is a superb beach lodge, which used to be a private winter home until 2004. The very intimate retreat offers princely comforts and personalised levels of service unmatched in this section of the coast. There are 7 double rooms in individual roundhouses & 1 double bedroom in the main guest house. Each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, European appliances, satellite TV, dressing table, wardrobe, chair & private porch. In an effort towards water conservation the guest house uses saltwater to fill up the 12 metre swimming pool. Get your alcoholic or soft-drink refreshments from the well-appointed 'Red Pool Bar' while enjoying the scenic ocean views of the Atlantic.
