The suites are low level or round huts, with twin mattresses on concrete platforms. Sea view accommodation and smaller units are available.

Review: Badala, in Kotu Stream, is a low-cost family-friendly 2 star tourist hotel not too far from the beach. It has kids' pool section and playground, helpful facilities for getting a bit of peace and quiet away from the little ones. There are single, double and triple bedroom suites; each suite has an en-suite bathroom with hot running water, satellite TV, ceiling fan, optional air-conditioning and private balcony.

Review: This is an unexceptional place with unpredictable levels of cutomer service. This could be because this outfit is basically a busy bar and eatery which happens to offer 4 double bedrooms. Each bedroom comes with its own shower, wash-hand basin and flushing toilet, plus ceiling fan, mini-fridge, maid room cleaning and laundry service.

Review: This is a family-friendly, 2 star tourist-class hotel situated on the beach where the Atlantic Ocean waters merge with the River Gambia, in one of the most desirable retreats. Beware that in this section of the coast the sea currents can have a strong undertow, and this isn't the best place to swim. The complex has 74 rooms, each with twin, double or single beds, en-suite bathroom / shower with hot water and flushing toilet. There are also family apartments with kitchenette and lounge. The accommodation opposite or near to a tourist taxi queue, foreign exchange bureau, bars and diners serving international cuisine such as Chinese, Indian and European.

The accommodation is more geared towards independent tourists and regional travellers looking for reasonably priced accommodation in a convenient locality. The Fajara Guest House is near the beach at 10 to 15 minutes walking distance. It is just off the main road which is close to bars, eateries, taxis and stores.

Review: A very basic lodge with a single or double bedroom, each with fridge, fan, kettle and mosquito net above the bed. The place can be a dicey place to stay because they don't have a standby electrical generator or reserve water tank. You can upgrade to a bedroom suite with its own private kitchen. The guest house could have shared bathing facilities so do enquire with the owners first.

Manjai Lodge

Review: The lodge is rectangular in shape with a central pool, bar and al fresco dining area. It has 50 simple suites, each with a ceiling fan, private bathroom or shower with a flushing toilet. There are also 3 en-suite, self-catering apartments. The general locality is not really geared up towards tourists, but more towards local people, but there are many bars, restaurants and shops on the main road to the lodge's left and right.

Palma Rima Hotel (Smartline)

Review: Palma Rima is a popular, family-friendly, 2 star hotel close to the beach with a more than ample sized swimming pool with children's section. The accommodation has a good choice of traveller services and facilities, as well as various bedroom options for solo travellers, couples and families. It's in a convenient location between the Kombo coastal road and the Atlantic oceanfront. There is direct beach access and sea views from some rooms as well as a night club, evening entertainment and various sports activities.

Review: The Romana Afram is not an ideal tourist hotel as it is on a busy main road, near the fish landing jetty and the Bakau general market. As a result there are car fumes, fishy smells and other undesirable odours emanating from the immediate environment. However, if you can withstand these smells and the hustle and bustle of being next to a real African urban environment, and just want a reasonably priced place to stay then this small hotel could be just right for you. The nearby beach is narrow, rocky and is a working beach of fishermen landing their catches and various utility buildings such as cold stores. There are plenty of taxis passing by regularly and many nearby amenities such as a mini-market, shops, bars, restaurants, banks and bureau de change. Each bedroom has a small front patio, double bed, en-suite bathroom, flushing toilet and ceiling fan. Each room is cleaned daily and there is a laundry service and a nice bar and diner serving European, African and Chinese dishes.

Review: Sarge's is quite a popular 2 star hotel in the heart of the tourist resort of Kololi, near the Senegambia strip, and among the most efficient economy establishments. From the outside this is a deceptively uninspiring large building. Things improve as you enter the main foyer and onto the central courtyard with swimming pool with kid's paddling section. It has standard bedrooms, studios, suites and 3 bedroom family apartments. Each has satellite TV channels, air-conditioning, private balconies or porch and an in-room safe. Some of the top floor rooms have sea views. Among its various other services are babysitting, massage parlour, hairdressing and 24 hour reception desk.
