Information:
The GCCI was was founded in 1967 as a result of the
merger between the Gambia Employer's Organisation and
the Bathurst Chamber.
It is a voluntary, not-for-profit, private sector organisation
whose membership is made up of companies from all sectors
of the Gambian business community i.e. Trade & Commerce,
Agriculture,
Industry, Tourism, Transport,
Telecoms services, Finance
& Banking.
Before independence the organisation's predecessor was
made up of 7 members drawn from Colonial businesses
but has since seen an expansion in current membership
of over 100 times to 700 in 2008.
Functions & Objectives:
The
main purpose of the GCCI is the delivery of vital business
services to its members and the private sector in general.
It also acts as a lobby to influence business policy
in order to establish and environment that is favourable
to business activity.
Re-Organisation & Vision:
Since the end of 2005 the GCCI has restructured its
office, created a fresh corporate image and put in place
strategic priority aims based on the following mission
statement: "To be the true representative
of the business community, providing service excellence
to the members and contributing to sustainable development".

Gambian companies can be part of an ECOWAS business
database whereby other companies in the sub-region can
easily identify companies within the same field of activity.
• Membership List -
They can provide you with a list of companies in certain
sectors.
All GCCI members have direct access to the full resources
of the business information centre • Secretarial;
• Initiate business contacts; • Match
making of foreign businesses with local counterparts;
• Serve as a conduit for business
consultancies;
• Training programmes and services for the business
community; • Organize and coordinate trade
fairs; • Advisory services on industrial relations;
• Promote and protect the private sector vis-à-vis Government;
• Translation services: English-French & vice
versa; • internships.
