Information:
GAMFIDA, founded in 1997, represents its members who
are small scale fishermen who use mostly throw nets
and West African pirogues.
The NGO's main mission is to enhance and advocate for
the advancement of the artisanal fisheries
sector and increase the capacity and cohesiveness
of its coastal / river membership through the dissemination
of information and training workshops.
GAMFIDA has a scheme to settle disputes which come about
as a result of fishing activities.
Finally the association runs a savings & credit
programme for fishermen in Banjul and the fishing communities
and villages in Brufut, Tanji,
Sanyang, Kartong, Gunjur
and Bakau.
