Information:
The ISHR Gambia chapter in Bakoteh Layout was established
in Banjul on the December 10, 1991 as activists and
monitors of human rights violations and to ensure that
the clauses of the 1948 UN Declaration of Human Rights
are put into force.
The organisation's other functions are to provide aid
to the families of political prisoners, sensitisation
training for law enforcers, reports on prison conditions,
campaign for law reform, organises lectures and workshops.
Vision:
The NGO's outlook is that African countries are duty
bound to take necessary steps to increase the level
of awareness of the people of Africa as a necessary
means for their comprehension of their basic rights.
Furthermore, that African governments recognise that
the rule of law, respect for human rights and democracy
are pre-requisites for development and social stability.
Finally, the necessity of building a network which will
act to promote, protect and defend human rights.
