Information:
The Qcell mobile phone company is the 4th GSM mobile
phone service provider to join the likes of Africell,
Comium and Gamcel. It was issued a licence on the 14th
August, 2008, by the Gambia's department of communication.
Qcell commenced its cellular business activities on
the 1st of July, 2009. It was the pioneering provider
of 3G+ GSM 900 & 2100 technology services to the
Gambian public. The 3G+ GSM network is available all
over the country including the areas of Greater Banjul
(KSMD) Basse Santa Su, and Farafenni in the North Bank.
3G+ Edge Internet Access enables users to gain fast
browsing speeds over the internet nationwide using a
USB data card and SIM card allowing its users to benefit
from high fidelity video calls, and roaming voice calls.
In addition Qcell offers VPN services to a variety of
customers such as NGOs, Embassies, Consulates and some
of the various ministries. Also, as an ISP, it delivers
Broadband Internet Services all over the Gambia through
their WiMax Fixed Wireless solution.
The Qcell company also sells a range of Nokia and Motorola
cell phones at their shop in Pipeline.
The cellular firm is owned by a Gambian named
Mr. Muhammed Jah who also owns the QuantumNet Group.
Update:
Qcell now has the corporate fixed wireless Internet
4G WiMAX platform service which enables their customers
to browse at least 20MB. This computer & smartphone
service is available in the Greater Banjul areas of
Fajara, Serrekunda, Kairaba Avenue, Brikama, Brufut
Heights, Latrikunda, Dippakunda, Kanifing, Old
Jeshwang and further afield in Batokunku, Sanyang Village,
Barra Santa Su, Amdalaye and up-river regions. |
