Information:
SBEC Shiloh International School (Bijilo), which was
established in 2001 by a Gambian couple, is the first
English and French School in The Gambia. It is open
to all children of all nationalities, races and religions
and operates on a non-discriminatory policy.
Student Numbers:
Shiloh has about 400 boys and girls on the school roll
with about 150 in the Junior school. Class sizes are
a maximum of 25 students.
The private school offers students a bilingual integrated
programme of study for pupils aged 8 months up to 16
years. The levels involved are the Daycare, Foundation,
Junior and High School.
SBEC's curriculum follows the National Curriculum of
the British educational system, mixed with the requirements
of the French educational system. The age span in each
class provides a family-like grouping where learning
can take place.
Ethos:
Every class is run on the principle of 'freedom within
limits'. Every educational programme has its own set
of ground rules that differ from age group to age group,
but it rigidly founded on the core values of respect
for each other. They will be taught the principle of
global citizenship, personal integrity, self-esteem,
discipline and social responsibility to inculcate in
them the skills to tackle the challenges of life.
Among the curriculum is English, French, math, swimming,
gymnastics, martial arts, choreography.
Shiloh is run by an Executive Committee.
