Thomson Holidays are the longest established British
tour operator to feature Gambia in its list of destination
package holiday resorts. Thomson's first package group
was flown on its Britannia Boeing aircraft to Banjul
Airport in 1978.
Since 2001 it has chosen to send its customers to just
7 selected resort hotels in Gambia. They are the Laico
Atlantic, Golden Beach Hotel, Senegambia, Kairaba, Kombo
Beach, Sunset Beach and the Coral Beach Hotel.
Thomson
is a member of the Association of British Travel Agents,
(ABTA no. V5126) and is Atol protected (number 2524).
The travel company was created in 1965 by Lord Thomson,
the Canadian Newspaper owner, and went on a £1.6 billion
stock market floatation in 1998. In June 2000 Thomson
accepted the German firm Preussag's buying price of
£1.8 billion after a drop of 40% in pre-tax profits
in 1999.
