Review:
The Al
Basha Restaurant serves authentic Lebanese
cuisine in The Gambia and is located in the very heart of
the Senegambia
Strip and opposite some lively nightclubs
and other diners along the tourist promenade. There is seating
in the street front veranda area or inside for more intimacy.
At Al Basha you will be warmly welcomed and treated like a VIP as
you are guided to your table. The waiter service is very
professional and before you can say "waiter" your menu is on your
table. But before you order do take a while to admire the scenic
pictures of Lebanon on the restaurant walls or the swords hanging
between.
When you're ready to make your choice you are really spoilt for
choice from their 3 course menu, but first try their selection of
hot or cold Meze (starters) such as the specially prepared
olives, savoury sambousek, falafel, Tabouleh (parsley salad), Warak
Inab (stuffed vine leaves), Arayes Alwaha (minced lamb with onions)
fresh salads, and of course hummus (mashed chickpeas). This can all
be washed down with various fruit juices or from their selection of
fine red and white wines from around the world.
After eating your starter you can now settle down for your main
course. Try from the entrees of delicately marinated and grilled
meats, poultry and seafood. Try their charcoal grilled chicken
called Shish Taouk, tender lamb cubes on skewers called Lahem Meshwi
or the spicy Lebanese Tahini Fish or succulent prawns.
And to finish off your meal you can try any one of their popular
sweets such as the pastry called baklawa or the Bouza Bi Haleeb
which is milk ice cream sprinkled with chopped pistachio nuts. If
you simply don't have any more space for dessert then try their
freshly ground made coffee.
So if you like international or genuine Lebanese cuisine then Al
Basha is well worth visiting whether its for a group night out while
on holiday in Gambia, exclusive dinner parties, a special
celebration or a quite meal for two in the weekends.
Oh, and don't forget, Friday night is their buffet so it's ideal for
couples and families.
