Kharafi & Sons is a Kuwait based multi-national company
which was established in The Gambia in June 2003. The business
activities of its subsidiaries in The Gambia are in a number
of different fields.
M.A. Kharafi & Sons Co. Ltd.
Business activities includes construction, investments, industrial
development, manufacturing, communications, restaurants, import
and export. The construction unit has been particularly
active in the rehabilitation of main roads.
It is currently (2008) waiting to build the Mandina Ba–Soma
road which stretches to just over 140 km.
Hotels &
Tourism:
In 2004 the company purchased The Kairaba Hotel in Kololi.
This is a 4 Star Accommodation,
Food & Beverages, Restaurants
& Banqueting, Conference
and Commercial Activities.
The company built the Sheraton Gambia Resort at Brufut
Heights which was finished in May 2007. This last project
employed around 900 people during the construction phase.
Agriculture (MAK Farm Foods):
This division has a farm at Kafuta Village called Kafuta Farm
which covers an area of 208 hectares and cost over $6,000,000.
The farm grows maize, potatoes,
tomatoes, peppers, aubergines, melons, lettuce, onions as
well as other sorts of vegetables.
Global Activities: Globally Kharafi and Sons
operates in more than 25 countries around the world and has more than
100,000 employees. Nasser Al-Kharafi is president of Mohammed Abdulmohsin Al-Kharafi & Sons Company (MAK Group).
General contracting; electromechanical engineering; steel
and aluminium fabrication; manufacture of ready-mix concrete,
asphalt, irrigation, water treatment plants, pumping stations,
port works gas and oil pipelines, airports and more.
